Old Shoreline Walk
“If you plan cities for cars and traffic, you get cars and traffic.
If you plan cities for people and places, you get people and places.”
Fred Kent
The proposed design aims to strengthen the Old Shoreline Walk by connecting Beirut Souks to Saint George Bay through a 640 meter generous pedestrian friendly promenade that offers a unique public space in Beirut.
Linking Beirut Souks commercial district to Saint George Bay waterfront and marina
On its main street, the transformation consists on lowering the vehicular traffic from two to one paved lane on each side - based on a traffic impact study. The 2 meter width median is expanded to an 8 meter central walk, following the model of shared public spaces and introducing the concept of "living street".
